We realized and developed an interactive, robotic sculpture to feature BMW Individual at 2011 IIA. Via a touchscreen terminal users can browse, filter, and choose from the multitude of material combinations, which are sorted and presented by a robot located in the center of the gleaming sculpture.

A program transmits the user’s current choice to the robot with an ingenious real-time protocol. This ensures the placement of the right materials in the presentation slots.

To enhance the user experience, the screen also shows a live camera image which is tinted with the individual colors selected by the visitor. The resulting image and information about the individual material combination can be sent to the user via email.
