Little penguin is hungry. But in the arctic, the next supermarket is thousands of miles away. So let’s help our friend, jump through a hole in the ice into the cold water, swim fast and try to catch some tasty fish. But be careful, we’re not alone down there: avoid the fishhooks of the Inuit, falling anchors, sabre-toothed fish and bad-tempered octopuses’ slimy tentacles to get to the goal and make the game.
“Tiefseetaucher” is kind of an underwater-version of good old jump’n’run games.
While horizontal scrolling makes the marine scenery pass by, you can change the penguin’s speed and vertical position, which is not that easy because underwater-movement is quite inertly, therefore we call it bump’n’shun.
A lot of field research had to be done to improve the game’s physical properties:
We followed our target group to the “Frankfurter Zoo” and observed them together with their young in their natural environment standing in front of the penguins’ enclosure and looking at the elegant movements of these beautiful animals.
